Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival

Who doesn’t like a grilled cheese sandwich? Well, if that’s you, please stop reading.

We purchased tickets in advance for the 2018 Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival hosted in Southside park. Prices for the Saturday (21+) tasting ranged from $60 for general admission to $75 for VIP admission which included access to the festival one hour before general admission. Your ticket price was inclusive of unlimited tastings from all of the food and beverage vendors, including alcohol. The festival was also open for free on Sunday but you would have to brave the crowds and pay for each sample tasted.

When we arrived at the park, we showed our tickets and ID’s, got wristbands and received a souvenir tasting glass, plate, and a single wooden token which we could cast for the “winning” sandwich of the day.

While the festival was busy, it wasn’t crowded. This was by design as they had sold out weeks earlier – a welcome change from the crowded festivals we attended last year.

With our plates in hand and our stomaches grumbling, we headed to the vendor tents. Each sample was 1/4 of a grilled cheese and ranged from the typical to the exotic. There were several vendors who also had vegetarian options (if you're into that kinda thing). We loved the Bacon Mac And Cheese Grilled Cheese (first image below) from Broderick’s. It was by far the most interesting and delicious.

To complement our cheesy delights, beer, wine, spirits, and even a kombucha tent were ready with cold drinks.

There were several lawn games setup and many folks were enjoying the time outdoors.

Overall, we loved this festival and will absolutely be back. Even though the price is a little higher than most, the lack of crowds, good food and drink, and all-inclusive nature made it all worth it.

Tip: Bring a blanket and lawn chairs and find a place to setup camp under one of the huge oak trees.
